Lentils are abundantly available in Indian households, so if you want to lose weight, instead of buying low-fat packaged food from outside, start consuming foods traditionally available in your home. There are many types of pulses in pulses from lentils, tur, gram to moth. They are rich in fibre, improve your health, make you feel full quickly and also help in controlling blood sugar levels. In this article, we will tell some pulses which can prove to be very helpful in reducing your weight.
Moong Dal Tadka
Ingredients to make Moong Dal
½ cup moong dal
2 ½ cups water
1 small onion
2 green chilies
½ inch ginger
2 garlic cloves
1 large tomato
1 tbsp ghee
¼ tsp mustard seeds
1 whole red chili broken
½ tsp cumin
¼ tsp asafoetida
¼ tsp turmeric
¼ tsp chili powder
¼ tsp garam masala
salt to taste
1 sprig curry leaves
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
How to make Moong Dal Tadka
Wash and sieve the moong dal. Put it in a pressure cooker on medium heat and add 1 1/2 cups of water. Pressure cook on medium heat till 2 whistles. After this is done, open the cooker and mash the lentils. Now finely chop one onion, green chilli, ginger and garlic buds. Make puree of one big tomato. For tempering, heat ghee in a deep bottomed pan and add mustard seeds, 1 whole red chili and cumin seeds. Add ginger-garlic, green chillies and curry leaves. Then add asafoetida and chopped onions. When it turns golden, add crushed tomatoes to it and let it cook. Then add turmeric, chilli powder, garam masala and salt as per taste. Fry for a minute. After this, add 1 cup of water, mashed moong dal and mix everything together. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
Spinach Methi Chana Dal
Ingredients to make Palak Methi Chana Dal
1 cup chana dal
1/2 tsp kasoori methi
3/4 cup spinach puree
1 tsp cumin
a pinch of asafoetida
1/2 cup onion
2 tsp ginger garlic paste
2 tsp garam masala
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 cup water
1 tsp oil
2 tsp salt
How to make Palak Methi Chana Dal
Mix chana dal and water in a pressure cooker. Let it cook till about 5 whistles. Once it is done, strain it and keep it aside – Now heat oil in a pan and add cumin, kasoori methi and asafoetida and fry for a while. When the cumin starts crackling, add finely chopped onion, ginger-garlic paste and fry it for about 2 minutes. Add garam masala, coriander powder and salt. After this add spinach puree and water, and mix everything well. After this, add the cooked dal, mix it well and let the mixture cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes. Keep stirring continuously. Once ready, serve hot with a small portion of rice or 2 small rotis.
Low Calorie Dal Makhani
Ingredients to make Dal Makhani
1/2 cup whole urad
1 tbsp Rajma
1/2 cup low fat milk
1 tsp oil
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tsp chili powder
2 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
3/4 cup fresh tomato pulp
salt to taste
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
How to make low calorie dal makhani
Clean, wash and soak whole urad and rajma overnight. Filter before cooking. Mix urad and rajma with salt and 2 cups of water. Pressure cook till 6 to 7 whistles. Once done, blend the urad and rajma well until almost mashed. Now add milk, mix well and keep aside. Take a deep pan and heat oil in it. Add cumin seeds. When the seeds crackle, add onion, ginger-garlic paste and cook on medium heat for a few seconds. Next, add chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and 2 tbsp water. Mix everything well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute while stirring continuously. Now add 2 tbsp water and tomato pulp. Keep mixing. Add the prepared dal-milk mixture and salt. Stir it and let it cook for 10 minutes on low flame. After preparation, garnish with coriander and serve hot.
